Our current London Adult teaching centres are located at 40 Dukes Place, London EC3A 7LP and 1-2 Soho St, London W1D 3GN.

Who Our courses are for

Adult programmes are open to students aged 18 and over.

In young-learner courses the minimum age for closed groups is 12

Terms and Conditions

These are the terms and conditions on which we provide study materials and services to you, whether these are courses, exams or associated services.

Terms and Conditions are binding on all students, regardless of whether the booking is direct, or through a representative.

These terms and conditions are applicable to all bookings made by individuals. Separate contractual arrangements will be put in place for groups and additional terms and conditions will be provided for non-adult courses.

Definitions and Interpretation

In these terms and conditions, unless the context otherwise requires, the following expressions have the following meanings:

“Business” - means any business, trade, craft, or profession carried on by You or any other person/organisation;

“Class or Lesson”- means any individual or group session at which We provide any teaching, instruction, or training and all facilities, services, equipment, and other goods and materials which we provide/use in connection with any such Class or Lesson;

“Our premises” - means the premises at which We hold Classes which is the same address as above];

“Price List” - means Our standard price list for all courses which We offer.

“Booking Confirmation” - means the document that We provide to You on the acceptance of Your booking/enrolment

“UKCE” - means UK College of English;

“We/Us/Our” - means UK College of English whose place of business and contact address is the same address as above;

“You/Your” -means an individual to whom We agree to provide any class, lesson course or service.

Governing Law

  • These terms of business are written in accordance with the laws of England and the parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
  • The Contracts (Rights of Third Parties Act) 1999 is excluded
  • These terms of business represent the entire agreement reached by the parties and excluding any fraudulent misrepresentation, no other statement, whether oral or in writing, will be regarded as a contractual term of these terms of business.
  • Any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with this agreement must be resolved by a court located in the United Kingdom

Acceptance

By buying a course or any of UKCE’s services either directly or through one of our registered partners, You accept these terms and conditions.

We will also ask You to accept these terms and conditions at the time of purchase

Misspelling & Typos

There may be information in these terms and conditions that contains typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions. We reserve the right to correct any errors, inaccuracies or omissions in these terms and conditions at any time without previous notice and We are not bound by obvious inaccuracies.

Validity

We reserve the right to review and change these terms and conditions.

Any updates and changes will be notified to current students in writing, via email.

The current version overwrites the previous version of these terms and conditions.

Public Holidays 

  • 7 April 2023 Friday: Good Friday
  • 10 April 2023 Monday:  Easter Monday
  • 1 May 2023 Monday: Early May bank holiday
  • 8 May 2023 Monday: Bank holiday for the coronation of King Charles III
  • 29 May 2023 Monday: Spring bank holiday
  • 28 August 2023 Monday: Summer bank holiday
  • 25 December 2023 Monday: Christmas Day
  • 26 December 2023 Tuesday: Boxing Day
  • 1 January 2024 Monday: New Year's Day 

We are closed on all such public holidays for all services – academic and other – and any lessons missed because of such closure cannot be recouped or compensated.

If a course has a published start date that falls on a public holiday then the course will start on the day after.

Closure

The school is closed for two weeks at Christmas, from Monday 18th December 2023 to Tuesday 2nd January 2024, inclusive.

Lessons will resume on 2nd January 2024

Students do not lose attendance on those days, and all courses will be extended accordingly.

Privacy and Data Policy

  • As a part of the registration process we ask you to disclose to us all information that we require in order to assess our obligations and to better understand your requirements.
  • We will only collect data for specific and specified purposes. We will make it clear at the point when We request your information, what we are collecting it for and how we are going to use it.
  • We will not use data for purposes other than that for which the data was collected, except as stated, or with prior consent.
  • We will seek to verify and/or update data periodically.
  • You are required to provide – and keep up to date Your contact details. Any changes to such data as Your current address, Your phone number and Your active email account must be notified to Us as soon as possible.

Prices and Price Changes

We may alter Our prices without prior notice, but if the price of any course or service increases between the time when You book it and the start date of the course or service, the price increase will not apply to You for the course or service starting on that date. If You extend or reenrol, then the new prices will apply

All prices of courses shown in the Price List are not subject to VAT.

Lessons/Terms & Modules

UKCE’s academic year is divided into 4 terms. Terms are 12-week long.

Each term is then divided into 3 modules. Modules are 4-week long.

Modules and terms start on specific dates. At some teaching centres, admission to courses is only permitted on those dates. At other teaching centres, admission is permitted every Monday (unless it is a fixed-duration course). Dates for courses can be viewed on published price lists.

Lessons are of 60 minutes duration and breaks are at the discretion of the teaching staff.

Liability

We will be responsible for any foreseeable loss or damage that you may suffer as a result of Our breach of these Terms and Conditions or as a result of Our negligence (including that of Our employees, agents or sub-contractors).  Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is an obvious consequence of the breach or negligence or if it is contemplated by You and Us when the Contract is created.  We will not be responsible for any loss or damage that is not foreseeable.

We provide Services for domestic and private use (or purposes).  We make no warranty or representation that the Services are fit for commercial, business or industrial purposes of any kind.  By making your booking, you agree that you will not use the Services for such purposes.  We will not be liable to You for any loss of profit, loss of business, interruption to business or for any loss of business opportunity.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions seeks to exclude or limit Our liability for death or personal injury caused by Our negligence (including that of Our employees, agents or sub-contractors); or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions seeks to exclude or limit Our liability for failing to perform the Services with reasonable care and skill or in accordance with information provided by Us about the Services or about Us.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions seeks to exclude or limit Your legal rights as a consumer.  For more details of Your legal rights, please refer to Your local Citizens Advice Bureau or Trading Standards Office.

If You bring any personal belongings onto Our premises, We do not undertake to keep them safe or provide any storage place for them. Their loss or damage will be at Your own risk except where such loss or damage is due to any deliberate or negligent act by Us or Our staff. We will not be responsible for any loss or damage to Your personal belongings caused by any other customer, guest or visitor to Our premises even where You leave or store them in any place at Our premises. We therefore advise You not to bring any valuable belongings to Our premises

Force Majeure

We will not be liable for any failure or delay in performing Our obligations where that failure or delay results from any cause that is beyond Our reasonable control.  Such causes include, but are not limited to: power failure, internet service provider failure, strikes, lock-outs or other industrial action by third parties, riots and other civil unrest, fire, explosion, flood, storms, earthquakes, subsidence, acts of terrorism (threatened or actual), acts of war (declared, undeclared, threatened, actual or preparations for war), epidemics or pandemics; natural disasters, or any other event that is beyond Our reasonable control.

If any event described above occurs that is likely to adversely affect Our performance of any of Our obligations under these Terms and Conditions:

  • We will inform You as soon as is reasonably possible;
  • Our obligations under these Terms and Conditions will be suspended and any time limits that We are bound by will be extended accordingly;
  • We will inform You when the event outside of Our control is over and provide details of any new dates, times or availability of Services as necessary;
  • If an event outside of Our control occurs and You wish to cancel the Contract, You may do so in accordance with Your right to Cancel under Our Cancellation terms
  • If the event outside of Our control continues for more than 13 weeks, We will cancel the Contract in accordance with Our right to cancel as stated in the Cancellation terms .
